Fulcrum

The second entry in my literary look book of great words is fulcrum. A little about my lovely friend (taken from the online Oxford English Dictionary):

fulcrum

Line breaks: ful|crum
Pronunciation: /ˈfʊlkrəm

1. the point against which a lever is placed to get a purchase, or on which it turns or is supported.

1.1a thing that plays a central or essential role in an activity, event, or situation:
research is the fulcrum of the academic community

How I came across this word

Not sure about where I first read this word (it’s pretty basic), but I’ve long thought it has a lovely sound, and it isn’t used enough. So many opportunities for alliteration and poetry!

My sentence

His odd viral video was a fantastic fulcrum for the contemporary kind of short-lived success so common today.
